Destroying Vehicles

Post by TommGun »

Using HMT how do you make it so that vehicles can be destroyed like they can be in Halo 2 and 3? (By the way, i have the halo trial)

You cant unless you PMI, which doesn't work on trial (since i've been gone for a while, I don't know if that is still entirely true or not).

Tutorial By DECOY

You need HMT3.5 with Phenoms plugin pack and HHTv5.

There are 2 ways to do this. the first involves PMI'ing the Wraith or the banshee
(NOT Banshee_MP) into your map, in order to use their damage effects.
If you are advanced enough to extract just an effect and rebuild with it, you want
Banshee\effects\partial damage from a30.
If not just PMi the entire banshee (NOT Banshee_MP) into your mod.

The second is quick and dirty, requiring no additional effects.... Very happy

---------------------------------------------------------------
1. The Full method

....following on from PMI'ing the banshee (NOT Banshee_MP) or wraith into your
map and rebuilding with HMT.....

Open the modded map with HMT

Go to the collision tag and highlight the vehicle collision you wish to make
destructable.

e.g. vehicles\warthog\warthog (inside the collison tag NOT vehicle tag.)

Over in the right hand side of HMT we now see the collsion tag values.

Uncheck all the boxes in the top section.
Now reselect only the Takes body damage box (top right)

CHOICE: If you only want the vehicle to be damaged when its occupied, select the
check box "only damaged While occupied"
If however, you want to be able to blow it up even when its empty, leave that box
unchecked.

In the body section just below the check boxes, place a value in the "MAx body
vitality" box. this is the total health points for the vehicle, say 100 for a hog, 250
for a wraith, 500 for a tank.(you decide how tough or easy you want them.)

Next box you need a value in is the "Body damaged threshold" box. This is the
partial damage effect level, the point at which our vehicle will start smoking and
burning a little say 75 for hog, 125 for wraith and 250 for tank.(up to you.)

Lastly in this section you need a value in the "Body destroyed Threshold" box. this
is the point at which it goes KABOOM. say 10. (up to you)

Skip over the Next section of the collision plugin, thats if you want shields on your
vehicles (sorry, separate tutorial)

We want the materials drop down box next.

Most (all?) vehicles in the game are comprised of more than one type of material.
If you select a number from the drop down list, it will tell you the material type on
the radio buttons below.

Because there are more than one type and part, you can if you want, make a
particular part a critical hit area.

Here's how...The box we are interested in is the " body damage multiplyer" For
there to be any damage taken, the body damage multiplyer value in this box must
be above 0. THIS IS CRITICAL (no pun intended).

Normal damage is a value of 1,a critical hit area might have a damage of 3 or 5
(like marking a head shot area on a vehicle, but with say, tires instead of the
head).

RECAP: So we have:-
Takes body damage check box selected.
Only damaged when occupied (optional)
Max Body Vitality :100
Body Damaged Threshold: 75
Body destroyed threshold: 10
Material type 1, Body Damage Multiplyer 1.

Click save

Close HMT.
open the same map in HHTv5

Open the collision tag.
Select the same vehicle we were working on in HMT (warthog in my example)
You will see a list of empty effects tags in the right hand window.
We are interested in the third and fourth ones down.

At this point its a good idea to drag HHT over to the top left corner of your screen,
because we are going to be using the drop down box on the lower right side of
HHT, and there is actually a scroll bar on it's right hand side.

Highlight the third effect down on the list in the right window.
Open the drop down box at the bottom of the right side of HHT and use the scroll
bar to find the following effect.

Banshee\effects\partial damage or Wraith\effects\partial damage (depends which one you PMI'd into the map)
highlight it and click the swap button
Click OK

Now select the empty effect fourth down the list. (one right below the one we just
did)
This time go through the drop down list looking for
vehicles\scorpion\shell explosion
highlight it and click the swap button
Click OK

Job done close HHT and try it out.

--------------------------------------------------------

Method 2. quick and dirty.
You couldn't be arsed to PMI Jack into a map.
This will give you destructable vehicles, but no partial damage effect.

Using HMt open your map and select the collision tag
Find and highlight the vehicle you want
put the following values into the boxes in the right hand window

Takes body damage check box = selected.
Only damaged when occupied (optional)
Max Body Vitality :100
Body Damaged Threshold: 75
Body destroyed threshold: 10
Material type 1, Body Damage Multiplyer 1.
Click save
Close HMT

OPen the same map in HHT
open the collision tag and highlight the vehicle we just edited in HMT
over in the right window in HHT select the fourth effect down the list.
Use the drop down box at thr bottom of the right side to locate and highlight
vehicle\scorpion\shell explosion
click the swap button
click ok
close HHT

NOTES: If you move the value of the partial damage up closer to total health, you
can drive around in a smoking firey vehicle for ages before it finally explodes. But
only if you PMI'd the Banshee or wraith into your map, to be able to use the
partial damage effect.

Things that go BOOM!
