n00b sidewinder question

I'm really not a newbie but I'm sure I'm gonna be called one so here goes...

I need to change sidewinder's cliff bitmap.
I need to change sidewinder's ground bitmap.

I have tried this with HMT v3 by changing
levels/b40/bitmaps/b40_cliff_snow_detail
but that changed both the ground and the cliff, which is NOT what i want.

any help(except vegito's) is welcome.
