Model Changing
I've got an idea for a single player mod, but a lot of the models would have to be changed. I know that the game doesn't like it when you change the number of vertecies, but I also know it's possible to use a model with a different number of vertecies if it's already in game (swap the MC for elite).
Now, my question is: Could I fool the game into thinking I had swapped a model when, in fact it's a completely new one? And if not, would I be stuck to modifying an existing model with a similar number of verticies to what I want and then swapping it?
To give you an idea, I want to turn the MC into this. Marines into this. Elites into this. Hunters into this. And so on.

Dude, that would be an awesome mod. The only problem I see would be the death scenes. Y'know how if you get blown up by a Plasma, you fly alittle ways and land, and Chief does all those animations? That would be the only problem that I could see.
As for the model problem, I can't perticularly help you a whole lot. I'm having trouble with the basic problems currently, so I can't assist you there.

Would you please stop telling anyone who has a mod idea to actually RIP it from CE and put it in PC? It's not worth the time to actually learn it in CE, because then you're going too far in anyways. Why waste the time.Phenomena wrote:make it in CE then rip to pc, but there is a way to do it in PC, because macs have an app that can do it -_-

rip is easier to type the converting

so whenever i "rip" something from ce, as long as i give credit (like i always do), then its not ripping but converting.jahrain wrote:Another note: Don't get "Ripped" and "Conversion" mixed up. Ripping is basically ripping off someone elses work as in saying you made something that they made and taking the credit for it. A conversion doesnt say you created it but converted it to another form so your techically not ripping the creator off as long as they dont have a problem with it or has giving you permition to do it.

And if they don't accept Jesus as their Personal Savior, you can kill them later. How cool is that!

I wish you'd understand how much you can do, and how free you are in creating your content. I made THIS, try to duplicate this. Many people do play it. Ask the map makers.Phenomena wrote:because no one plays ce, why make a map for ce, when only about 100 people are going to play it....
and its not ripping, its converting.

If you really are a true modder, you would know player count doesn't matter. That's called greediness, wanting people to play and play your maps.
You also did call it ripping yourself. And no, it is not converting. A conversion is something like what is in Knave's tags, or Coags tags. Technically it is IMPOSSIBLE for it to be a conversion in PC because things do downgrade, as not everything is compatible. If you argue against that saying you can rip from CE, you just disproved your own point.
I'm against CE to PC ripping so much because most people wouldn't give a care to ask another person permission. They really wouldn't. As long as they can get a tag, viola. We have our share of leakers, which we've learned to cope with as it doesn't harm us in anyway, since it's still our map being released and "tested" by others.
I understand you giving credit, but I don't see you actaully getting credit for some of the stuff you've agued against. I've learned my share. And I know you're gonna argue against this too, like I've told you many times, but you're not getting the point.
Sadly, I really woudln't like to say this, but I have been looking through the PC sections, and the mods I've seen that everyone seems to get hyped up about aren't even promising, or looking great either. I don't dislike PC modders, I do it myself in campain when I'm bored. I'm just not a fan of CE to PC ripping. Permission is fine, but no permission isn't. There are many people who would just take content.
Also, giving credit and not giving credit doesn't change a rip to a conversion. It's the content itself.

then dont take out on the people who WOULD ask permission like me, and i never tell anyone to convert someone elses tags, ive told them to make it themselves then convert.I'm against CE to PC ripping so much because most people wouldn't give a care to ask another person permission.
and according to jahrain as long as credit is given its not considered ripping.

According to most other gaming forums I've been to and seen myself a conversion is something done with a lot of work put to it. A rip isn't.
And I've said before, don't waste your time telling people to MAKE it in CE. That actually destroys the point of the HEK and CE, and people would have to learn how to use it anyways.
That is probably the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Why would you make something then downgrade it?
You most likely won't understand, you aren't someone who creates custom content and has a wide contributation to the mapping community. (keyword, MAPPING). Tags are incredibly hard to perfect. I hate when they are misused. It makes great achievements worth nothing.
I could go rip a Halo 2 SMG, get it ingame without any work, just noded to the AR's animations. Then, I could give credit to Bungie. It's still a rip. It's doesn't look professional and worked on at all.

I'm all Singleplayer. I create content, I make it for Singleplayer. I don't care for the multiplayer, multiplayer has always been f-ed up. (Too much lag for me anyway)
I want to create cutscenes, singleplayer levels, all kinds of sp content. Until that is really possible, (read: possible for me) I will just stay with PC SP, and CE MP. (even though I haven't done anything for CE except my scarab (which I made, fully custom thankyouverymuch), which isn't even done)

Well, this is a SP mod and intended for SP use (though It would be cool to see a bunch of Gundams going at it in MP).
It does disapoint me though that this thread has devoted most of it's ambitions towards the rip/convert debate rather than helping me with my problem. I've got some starting points and that's good, but for all the posts, all I've gotten is 'make it in CE then change it over to PC'. Now I'm not asking exactly how to do this (that's what tutorials are for) but some other possabilities would be nice.
Also, don't expect to see this mod for a bit since I've got full time school, full time work, and a girlfriend, all of which take precidence. Heck, I might not make any serious progress untill this summer.

The thing is, it's not the same as swapping models of MC and Elite.
They have certain meta's, in which the information is stored of how many vertices every model has. You won't get any further by modifying the meta's either.
Your best shot is to model an existing model, but you'll need to be experienced in modeling.I find the Hunter already looking like a Gundam, so you could try to model the Hunter to a Gundam. Then, if you like your model, keep the model, and copy the hunter biped several times, so you can make gundam models from the hunter's, but this time more different ones. (That way you can give the MC a Huntermodel1(gundam1) and the Marine another one)
