simple vehicle/scenery swap

Post by Drivers Ed »

im pretty new to modding so im probly not doing something very simple

im using hmt and im changing the scenery tag to vehi unit obje and saving so it goes to the vehi area but then every time i swap it with a vehicle and save it doesn't save right and the meta size is 0

anything in particular im doing wrong?

thanks for your time, i know a lot of noob posts can get annoying after awhile, but i couldn't find specific help on this anywhere and i've been trying all night

::edit:: finally figured it out, nevermind

That should be ok that the size is showing as zero.
The reason is that when you swap in HMT you're swapping items in the tag index.
HMT uses the tag index to determine the size of an item's meta.
It just goes through the index and looks at each item's tag, then determines each item's meta size in relation to the tag that follows it in the index. Hopefully that makes sense.
So, when you swap something in the index it just gets confused about the size of the meta and will either show 0, or a large number, depending on what you swapped, and where it's located in the index.
...but it doesn't really matter and your mod should work fine. :)

ok, now im having problems with it again

for some reason i cant get the stationary shields on rr to change to hogs, instead they just disappear

i'll list all the steps i take so someone can please point out which step im doing wrong

1. ftp a good copy of rr's cache003.map to my computer

2. use halo map tools and change the object tags for scenery\c_field_generator\c_field_generator from scen obje yyy to vehi unit obje and then hit save

3. i then hit the swap button and swap the meta number from vehicles\warthog\warthog to my scenery\c_field_generator\c_field_generator

4. i hit save and ftp back to the box and the game loads with no covie stationary shields

i've tried playing around with other things too like also swaping the ID tags and renaming scenery\c_field_generator\c_field_generator to vehicles\warthog\warthog but it wont let me rename it that long because all i can fit in the box is vehicles\warthog\wartho
