Xbox Map Rebuilding

ok i've looked all over these forums and in the tutorials section of the site but i can't find anything on how to batch extract and rebuild halo 1 xbox maps properly. I'm really stuck here. What I am trying to do is put grunt models and sounds from two betrayls into hang em high. I've successfully extracted and injected these meta tags, but when I compress the map and replace it in the maps folder on my xbox hard drive, I try to play the map and when i select to play it, the game freezes. I think this may have something to do with the maps size but i'm not sure. It's about 7 megs bigger than normal. I've done simple projectile swap mods and stuff like that, and got it to work on my xbox, but I can't get maps with new meta to work. If anyone can enlighten me on any of this or show me a tutorial for map rebuilding, I would greatly appriciate it. Thanks alot!

Ok i found out that i was compressing the files wrong before putting them into the maps folder. I was using HME and apparently it doesn't completely compress the map right. I found this really nice tutorial over at www.halomaps.com that told me this and showed me how to use a hex editor to correct the map size.

I still have a problem however. When I try to play the map it will no longer freeze which is good, but I now get the dirty disc error. Does anyone know if this has something to do with compressing the map wrong, or rebuilding the map wrong. Thanks for any help I can get.

p.s. I didn't use spark edit to compress the map because when I tried that multiple times, I'd come back a full hour later and it would still be running. Is it supposed to take longer than this? Again, thanks for any help.

I use HHT to compress my maps... anyhow check that you have the filename and internal name correct (just use HHTV5 to check the internal name) because the dirty disk error should only come up if it isnt seeing the map AT ALL... it should just be a minor naming issue :P

ok. I compressed with HHT v 5 and everything seemed to go ok. I deleted all cache files, then I uploaded the new compressed map into the maps folder. I then went to play the map. After I selected the map (hang em high) in the selection screen, I selected the locked game varient slayer, and thats when it froze on me. The only thing I can think of is that i changed some dependancies with the rocket. I changed the rocket projectiles model dependancy to the grunt model, and also changed some other effect and sound dependancies.

Does anyone know if this would make the game freeze at the game varient screen? Thanks again.

Oh yeah, llama juice, i checked the internal map name and everything was good with that.
