Help please ....

Hi. i got halo 1 for my xbox the otherday and i was wondering how the hell do i mod it ? i read a tut on how to apply patches and it didnt seem to work, so i tryed making my own mod and that didnt work either. ive modded halo 2 before so i know how to ftp. also i dont know if i should download mods for NTSC or PAL. any help would be apreciated.
