Post by SnakeEyes984 »

hey, i'm lookin to get a modchip for the xbox and i dont know what one to get since i dont know which one is better. so if someone(s) can help me out w/ what i should get that would b great. i was actually lookin into gettin the xecuter 3 or xenium ice. tho i dont know what the perks are to either of them if they are different at all. and i know that they each support all versions so i dont have a problem there. or if ne one knows a better one.
thanks guys

It depends on two things:
What version is your Xbox?
Can you solder?

I personally have an Xenium and it's great, however with all the new stuff, I'd say X3

If you have an Xbox made after ~April 2004, it's probably a 1.6.

With these, installing a modchip is much more difficult to (must rebuild the LPC), and requires a bit more soldering (even with the solderless adapters, they don't really work well with 1.6).

So, a better alternative for the 1.6 Xboxes (and older ones, too) is softmodding. Basically, you use Action replay or something similar to install a special game save to an Xbox memcard, which you put on your Xbox, run the game, and install the mod.

Ltools 1.7.5 is a great softmod package, and will work with any Xbox with dash 4920 or higher, including 1.6 (if you have a really old xbox with dash lower then 4920, just run a live enabled game to do a dash update). I modified it to work with earlier dash versions, however.

All of my Xboxes have X-ecuter 2.3 Pro modchips in them, but I've softmodded most of my friend's boxes since it's a lot faster, easier, and cheaper.

Ltools 1.7.5 works with version 1.6 (installs UDE2, PBL-metoo, EvoX M8 )
