WHICH HARDDRIVE TO UPGRADE WITH

I want to put a bigger hard drive in my xbox, but im not really sure which one to get or where to get it. If anyone has any good info or sites please post.

Is it legal to put a bigger hard drive into your xbox? If it isn't then i'm afraid that this post will probably be deleted, because the mods don't want illegal topics or discussion happening in this forum.

no it isnt illegal, here i would suggest a maxtor or a western digital from this site, or any other place that you can buy them at! BUT dont go over 160 GB, you might run into problems.... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... ry_hdd.asp

Only if you have a really old BIOS (that doesn't have the LBA48 fix) will you have issues formatting a HDD larger than 137gb

I have a Hitachi 160gb in mine, and my dad has a WD 250gb, it works fine with no issues (running X2 4981.06).

I can see no other reason why a drive bigger than 160 would have issues, maybe power consumption or heat, buy my 160 uses less power than the stock 10 gig, and stays remarkably cool.

Your best bet would be to go with a WD drive, they seem to be some of the best ,and you can usually find good deals on them.

I was thinkin the heat and the old bios could possibibly effect what he wanted to do, but if you are confident, or you want to make sure, go upgrade your bios and then get w/e you want

DO NOT GET A MAXTOR HD!!

I have fried 3 maxtor 120GB hard drives. One in my pc, 2 in my xbox, they are crap. They get way too hot and fry themselves.

Go with western digital. I have a western digital 200GB and it works great, no problems. It's a 7200 rpm, and somehow it stays cool to the touch all the time.

Also, hard drive size is not a problem like it used to be. Just run a newer bios.

Mmmm, I like that 200gb one.

My stepdad has a WD800 in his, and my dad has a WD1200 in one of his and a WD2500 in the other, they work great.

Stay away from Maxtor, I've had 2 40gb ones die in my PC. Seagates are bad, too. i had a 120gb one in an Xbox, and after 4 or 5 hours of use it started making all kinds of chirping noises, and the xbox started giving error 5. Not to mention the crappy stock seagate HDD that was in my old 1.0 xbox that just fried.

but how do i find out if i can lock it,because i heard if you cant lock it then you cant play on xbox live

^I think that there is a program that helps you on that subject for locking/unlocking... But if all fails, go to google and type in what hard drive you have and see if it is lock/lockable... That is about the only suggestion i have for ya
