So, I was thinking of purchasing an XSATA and downloading the Halo XBO from XBL Marketplace, and get into modding, specifically working with some CE -> XBox conversions with a friend.
Now, I realize I cannot edit the disc image directly, as it's digitally signed. I was talking to a few people, and I ended with a couple unanswerable (by them, at least) questions.
For one, where is the cache stored on the 360 HDD for Halo? If I can't edit the disc image directly, the next best thing is opening the cache and editing the maps in there.
Secondly, would the XSATA raise a red flag for banhammers/cheat autodetection while in XBL games? I don't want to get my account banned for just having the XSATA when my aim isn't even close to modifying, say, COD4 or Halo 3. I'm not exactly sure what the anti-cheat mechanisms look for, whether it be differences in config, modified assets, what have you.
Halo (XBox Originals) Modification

Sorry, I do not know where they are kept as cache on the 360.p0lar_bear wrote:For one, where is the cache stored on the 360 HDD for Halo? If I can't edit the disc image directly, the next best thing is opening the cache and editing the maps in there.

i cant really help much but im also interested in modding halo XBO. I have some good ideas of how to start working on modding the .con files that the game is compressed in but i first need to know if there is a .con compress/decompresser out there and if where the files are on the hardrive.
also what do you mean by modding the cache?
and btw modding your hardrive wont get you in trouble at all. mines been modded for a long time now and i havent had any trouble at all.

1. Unless you can prove me wrong, you won't be modding any .CON files anytime soon. Or at all for that matter. And if you do, you won't be able to utilize them properly.wanksta wrote:i cant really help much but im also interested in modding halo XBO. 2. I did already tell him that but thank you for the reassurance.
3. Your cache are files in a certain partition that allow the game to load assets quicker. Each game creates these files. I'm not sure if the 360 overwrites the last game played's cache but I know the original xbox does.

You can get the files out, but you can not put them back in. Even if you could put them back in, you wouldn't be able to resign the container, as the only group who has the information to do so isn't planning to release it at this time, due to the massive problems it would cause with Live modding and tons of other abuse.wanksta wrote:i first need to know if there is a .con compress/decompresser out there and if where the files are on the hardrive.

yeah, like a few before me said
cache files are located under third partition, you would go to the xbox1 section and find cache. THey are all there, but in CON files.
You cannot resign let alone insert files into this CON format....
uhm yeah. stick to modding the downloadable maps on halo 2.
those are easy...
OR
mod an original xbox. :]
halo 2 is still more fun than wasting time asking people how to get the resigner for CON/LIVE files.
I did that for a week when I bought xsata.
I got flamed.
I stoped.
I modded an original xbox.
I'm happy.
