Hopefully this won't sound n00bish...

Alright, I'm new to XBOX modding (Veteran of PC modding, though). I'm FTPing the maps I copied onto my XBOX to my computer. In order to inject skins, I'll need to FTP the bitmaps.map and the map that I want to inject the skin through, correct? I'm pretty sure that's how it worked with PC, but I just wanted to double check before there's a massive explosion and children start fleeing to the hills in massive agony.

Thanks in advance!

The xbox version of Halo does not use bitmaps.map. The maps only use ui.map for all it's external resources. So you just need all the maps from the maps folder and that's all.

I would suggest using HMT for injecting skins into your maps. It doesn't seem to have as many problems handling bitmaps as HHT does.

Also, just inject the texture/bitmap into the map you are modifying, as I said earlier, there is no bitmaps.map so the xbox map just uses it's own resources.

Alright, it worked (and that made me happy, now I can make different themed maps).

But when I put the map on my XBOX and tried to play it, I got a disc read error (odd since it's on the Hard Drive). What can I do to fix this?

((The map is b30.map aka Silent Cartographer))

Did you compress the map before ftp'ing it back to our xbox?

That'd be the problem, thanks. I just realized that, I feel stupid now. :D

Alright, so I've gotten the mods actually working, but now there's a new problem.

Every time I FTP an updated version of this mod to my XBOX, it registers as virtually no changes being made. I mean, bitmaps, weapon functions, projectile functions, fog, and the like don't change, but AI behavior and some rate of fire edits do appear. How do I fix this?

Your xbox un-compress' the maps you load. So virtually, it loads the map faster and so on. So what happens when you ftp over and over, you are physically putting your map on the hardrive. But in reality, the game is loading the un-compressed version of your map from the beginning. Basically, it needs to be deleted.

Use evox or UnleashX for this...

When you ftp to your xbox you should see along the lines of what this picture displays...

Starting from bottom to top of color coded list.

Image

Red - Cache directory's (what we are looking for)
Green - The F directory is only used on xbox's with upgraded hardrives to store media such as full xbox games, music, movies, pictures, emulators...
Blue - The E drive stores all your gamesaves and downloaded content.
Orange - This is your disc drive, pop in a disc and open this "folder" and it will display the disc's contents.
Grey - This is your C drive. This has important system files that shouldn't be tampered with unless you know exactly what you are doing.

Now, once you read that, you will want to open up the Red folder. Each one of those may contain cache files that you will want to delete. So basically go through each one of these partitions (they look like folders) and delete everything they may contain. Make sure you only do this for the x,y, and z drives. Then reboot your xbox and test the mod.

Unfortunately, you have to do this everytime you want to retest something. If you use evox as a main dashboard...I have a nice little option I created so evox will delete the cache for you so there is no need to go through each folder individually looking for the files.

Let me know how this goes, if you need more help, feel free to contact me or just lay it out right in this thread.
