Ok, I am looking for the best possible chip for my needs, and I need help. I have some soldering exp, but I do not want to solder. But, I have heard solderless chips mess up often. Also, I have a price range of about 200 bucks. I have a v1.6 xbox (5838.01) and a 5960.01 dashboard (I think the D means dashboard...)
I would also like a hard drive upgrade, and still be able to play on live. Any recommendations?
Also, if I have to solder, would the Cold Heat soldering iron be good for the job?
[edit] Haha, the title of the thread was ModChimp not ModChip hahaha
ModChip recommendations?

alright dude, i would not upgrade your hd just for the fact alone...you want to get onto xbl. i have a x3 modchip, no extended hd and i can get on. so i really know about ne other mod chips but my friends seem to like the xenium ice (solderless, and it works pretty well). i dont have the solderless but i think xecuter just came out w/ one. i dont know if you have check out xbox-scene.com yet, but they have alot of opinions there. so i would stick w/ your stock hd and instead of buying a hd, buy a dvd burner. but, you wont b able to get online w/ ne burnt games. cuz you will need your chip off. good luck.

well, actually i was reading at the xbox-scene.com forums (which all it is, is talk about mod chips) and i was readin about adding the hd. and i think that if u have an extra (w/ the original still in there) hd, then there is a program for you to use that will make xbl not "see" the other hd. but u have to know that ne of the games that you burn/put on the hd, u cant use on xbl b/c u need the chip off. andi was just talkin to a friend about this, he has and xenium ice and he said that he cant get on live or something b/c the chip doesnt fully turn off, so he is goin to end up gettin the chip that i have (x3, which is just great
). so i dont know, i would def check out xbox-scene.com and sign up there and read the forums and post ne chip ?'s there.
and yes, i do believe the solderless works. xecuter just came out w/ some new stuff, so you might wanna check it out. like the solderless adapter, lcd screen, and the external switch.

If you get an Xbit, you have 3 opions. 1)solderless, 2) solder) and 3) solder and have a certain thingy do something on you xbox.
SO go with Xbit, it takes about 4 minutes to install, and it is really easy to put a BIOS on for the fact of a mini USB port on an external chip.
I'm pretty sure, if you get all your upgrades BEFORE you sign up for XBL, then you should be okay. But if you don't get an XBIT I don't know what to do, because with an XBIT you can sorta turn it off to play.
But you should be okay if you get all your upgrades bofore signing up. Look into it more, since I've only heard about it.
