Wishful thinking?

Hey, this is my first post and I have a really n00b question.

I see the tutorials on llamma.com or something, about modifying the controller port to usb......is it possible to get a USB extension cord and cut it in half.......and be able to reconnect conroller via usb back to xbox....
Two reasons for this....to use the controller for pc and also to use the usb with a usb stick to load files on the xbox.......

<xbox contoller>-------<male USB> (to computer or cord 2)
*cord 1*

<female USB>------<xbox connector> (to xbox)
*cord 2*

Only so I don't loose a controller to crack my box.....

I guess it would work if the yellow wire doesn't really do anything important...

So I should just leave the yellow wire alone, and just solder evertything else together....

red to red.....and so forth...

What does the yellow wire do anyway?

there's one wire that's for something I don't know what. you need to make sure the metal casing is soldered also.
