JPEG to .DDS

how do I turn a JPEG image to .DDS image? I tried to save as over a dds image and it wouldn't let me. I saved textures off a website and wanted them to be textures for my new map. I do just save the textures off a webite right?

this is a very old question but anyway
to convert a jpeg/gif/tga/bmp/(any other picture format) to .dds format you need a copy of either paint shop pro 8 or photoshop then you have to download the dds plugins from nvidia.com
