Halo 2 or Halo 3?

Well, I have been debating with myself lately on whether I should start helping out with Halo 3 modding by researching and making programs for it or research what is left on Halo 2. This is why I am having trouble deciding:
Halo 3:
Pros:
-Best game ever and so much better than Halo 2
-Making applications would help the community and myself when Halo 3 becomes modable
Cons:
-High chance of Halo 3 not being modable so it would be useless to research something that I can never use
-0 chance of me getting a dev/demo kit
Halo 2:
Pros:
-Very fun to mod
-I could actually use the applications I make
Cons:
-Halo 2 modding is getting very boring since I know there is a better game out there
So, any suggestions?

Personal, i would stick to Halo 2, since there is so much more modding you can do, more potential. And imo, it's MP is still superior to Halo 3 in some ways.
If Halo 3 could be modded just as weel, then sure, i would stick to that, since thats what most people are playing.
I don't have any opinions on the research matter.
I think you should choose what makes you most happy.

I'd say stick to Halo 2. From the impression I'm getting from the H2 forums, it looks as if everybody is getting saddened by people 'moving on' to Halo 3. Do those people a favour and stick with 'em.

I do not think that Halo 3 is the best game ever, quite often it fails; as in an Epic Fail.
I would say Halo 2 because there is a lot already out there for you to get used to modding.

Halo 2 is better, in terms of modding. Halo 3 really is full of Fail.
save for Halo 3 PC.
The modders/programmers shouldn't have abandoned support for other Games.
Whats wrong with modding H2V for PC? is their PC crap?
There must be a reason why they don't want anything to do with H2V.
Halo 2 Vista > Halo 3 - 360.

no, its dying, cause the modders moved onto Halo 3, or some left long ago to live their lives, or lost the motivation to mod, due to something bad happening.
Halo 2 is getting boring, there's nothing new coming out.

I would work on researching halo 2 and making programs for that, because you can actually test them easily and see your progress. If you learn to program the right way, if it ever becomes possible to mod halo 3, then you should be able to modify the code to work with it easily or even rewrite it pretty quickly.

Halo 2. If you get far, you can cary over what you know into halo 3, even though its way different.

Halo 2.
To be honest with Halo 3 its a mess right now because if you got into it we'd need to keep up with your research so we don't waste time looking into it, and you can't even test halo 3 so I bet many values would turn out wrong and that'd make it a bigger mess going back to test your work, see the way we work is we test it to make sure its right, label it, leave it, and move on because we know its been tested.
Plus I'd say Halo 2 needs a jump start again.

How much longer do you think, it'll take for all values to be mapped out?
Would any of the Halo 3 modders come back, to H2V?
Cause they completely ignored it, and jumped to Halo 3.

I said Halo 2. Intill they (If ever) make Halo 3 for the PC... access to modding Halo 3 is going to be pretty limited.

People really need to stfu about H2V, it's getting really annoying.

its like the only game, thats better to mod, just only you have taken time to do it, with not enough help.

Right, getting back on topic...
Detox and Insanedrive make good points. You should listen to them.

Or open the maps in a hex editor, research them, and learn how to edit them. Or even make some apps to do so on your own, nobody is stopping you from modding, you might not be getting tools, but you can still mod stuff.

Well, all of the replies on this thread say Halo 2, but I have 5 votes for Halo 3.
But I think I will stick with Halo 2. Since you all have brought up good points.

I do H2V work myself, I like it not alot has been done ever since support was dropped asap. It's quite nice learning what can be done with RTH (as I don't know much about the .map format) I build player structs and everything quite nicely.
But in other words Halo 2 is to me an overall better game, Yes it doesn't look as good but in some sense its the same system, just with some "Vista Pretty's" over it.

My PC probably could run H2V because I have 2gb of RAM and a 2.0Ghz processor. But the graphic card only has 128mb of memory and I don't think it would work well. The graphic card can't even play Halo PC without major lag.

H2V runs more smooth for me than HPC.
