halo coding

Post by arca »

Does halo have its own scripting language or can you use c++?

Just wondering if it was possible to code an multiplayer rpg type game in halo, where your progress is saved. I did this before with the half-life engine. Is anything like that? Can you download the source?

thanks.

So in other words ... no.

You would think that the success of Half-Life would encourage companies to release the source (not the engine source), so people could create mods, which keep the game alive long after its run. Especially a company that was involved at one point with Valve...Gearbox. Of course Microsoft has the final say I suppose. Oh well, I was just wondering if it could be done. I guess I'll keep waiting for Half-Life 2 to come out and port my mods over to it as I planned.

No, there is no SDK for Halo. Therefore we don't have access to the needed source to change the Halo engine.

You're obviously a super newb. But then again we already knew that. HEK is the Halo Editing Kit, not a SDK (Software Development Kit) for Halo. There is no source code avaliable, therefore we cannot programmatically extend the engine. That is what his question was about. You should read more carefully and make sure you understand what people are talking about before you open your mouth and make yourself look stupid.
