Terrain bitmaps in 3ds

I've created the terrain bitmaps, and I'm trying to apply them, using the material editor, to my level.
However when I apply the materials to the level I can see the bitmap displayed on the faces making the floor. When i then select uvw map I get the same bitmap displayed but inverted.


Where am I going wrong?

I've flipped the 'u' tile which makes them consistant at least, but is this meant to be necessary?

just edit the uvw or apply a unwrap uvw modifier aswell.
