Strange 3ds max 6 problem.

Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

Strange 3ds max 6 problem.

Post by TheMissingLink117 »

Ok this is what happens. When I apply the .tif image file to the skybox that I want to be the ground, the image appears on the ground even BEFORE I apply the UVW map modifier. The problem is though that it is flipped. After I apply the UVW map to it, it is correct, but when I go back into editable mesh, a message comes up that says:

A modifier exists in the stack that depends on topology.
Changing parameters may have undesirable effects.
The dependant modifier is: (then either UVW Map or unwrap UVW, whichever one I am using) Are you sure you wan't to continue.

The choices I have are: Hold\Yes, Yes, and No.

I have tried them all neither works. So when I am in UVW map, the image is right, but when I go into editable mesh, it is flipped. When it is flipped however, the terrain stays the same, so it is nearly impossible to edit terrain.

Just now I tried the show end result button, and now it is aligned correctly, but I have to see the UVW map lines all over, and the .tif still should not show up before I apply the UVW map.

Anyone know why this is happening?

its not a problem, just use you modifier list to create another Edit Mesh

so it goes

Edit Mesh
Unwrap UVW
UVW Map
Edit Mesh

or, after applying the UVW, right click, and go to Convert To then Editable mesh

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I finally got it to work, you are a life saver. I'll put your name in the thanks. :D

Edit: One more question. I know how to create the lake, but I do not know which .tif file is the water file. The closest thing I could find was the waves water detail under b30 data. I took that and made it more blue, but do you know where I could find the .tif that most people are using for water?
