Indoor levle making help

Post by FoxFire »

I need help on how to make an indoor level Only the 3Ds Max part of it....
Lets say the level is just a hallway, just a plain hallway.......
Should I either make a "level" box and attach the hallway to it, or just make the hallway without it in another box?
So should I...
A.) Make three boxes: "Frame", "Level", and "Hallway"

or

B.) Make only two boxes: "Frame" and "Level"(which is the hallway)

Oh, and do I have to put a sky in it? Even if the players DO NOT go outside?

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Oh!!!
Second Question:

I was thinking of making a TALL tower, inside ONLY, and have many vent shafts to crawl in and small hallways, ect. or is that a bad idea...

Thanks for the Input!!

actually you should make large-ish rooms every now and then to simulate floors.

thats just my 2 cents

Dont take much advice from me seeing that Im not that great at mapping, but a starting point would be to create an outline of the interior of your level (like the hallways), attaching them all together, then creating your actual frame and level areas, and finally place your completed interior design inside of the level area and using a boolean to "subtract" the inner part of your design. Im not positive if it will work, Ive tried a few things but cant seem to get anything right at the moment.

As for the sky, Im not sure if you need it or not. I really doubt it though.

You dont need a sky. You would only need the frame and the box (which is the outerwalls of your level). That should work. I see no reason for it not to.

Yep, shifty's right.

Just make the 'level' box the size of your hallway. Then just apply a normal texture to the walls and ceiling.

Of course since there is no sky you will need some interior lighting. There are tuts around showing how to make the shaders for that.

Also, and it could just be me, when I looked at my first interior level I was playing with I couldnt see jack in sapien. No sky, no light. Finnaly I did put a sky in using geurilla and there was light in sapien so I could see the outline of my little box level. And populating in sapien is harder with small closed levels. You cant really see what you are doing.
