Unwrap UVW problem in 3DS Max 6

I've been trying to build a level in 3DS Max 6, and I go in and unwrap the UVW map, get everything looking good, texture in the right place, but when I go back to editable mesh mode, I get an error message that tells me it's dependent on the Unwrap UVW modifier, and the texture goes right back to the way it was. Does anyone have any clue as to why it would do this? I've tried just about all I can think of, and this thing still has me stumped. Thanks!

Actually, the error message reads:

"A modifier exists in the stack that depends on topology.
Changing parameters may have undesriable effects.

The dependent modifier is: Unwrap UVW

Are you sure you want to continue?

[Hold/Yes] [Yes] [No]"

I'm probably doing one small little thing wrong, but it's driving me insane.

you should continue, its just saying that once you make a change the mapping will be ofset which makes sense because you unwrapped it to match your mesh but when you change the mesh youll need to fix the unwrapping to meet the changes.

(i think anyway, im still new)

Its no big deal, Its just letting you know that editing the mesh after laying out the UV's will mess up the map.

Just do all your editing before you UV map the mesh.

or, just go to your modifier list and go to edit mesh again so it goes

edit mesh
unwrap UVW
edit mesh
