Ok guys I'm really new with skinning and need help

ok i have everything to skin, the .dds plugin, photoshop, HMT3. I can edit the colors but i want to know how to inject new things into the pictures. I saw a SF 49ers banshee and i know he didn't hand draw it and i wanna learn how to do that kind of stuff, please help me... (btw the banshee looked good whoever did it)
