Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

For first time skinners, how would you recommend skinning?

Post by Knight »

Injecting some of Quag's skins, it seems that parts of the skin are randomly thrown about, everywhere. It doesn't look like it does in the game at all. However, I think skinning would be fun, but right now I don't know where to start.

What would you recommend a first-time skinner do? Would it be more beneficial to practice large-area textures, or to spend more time finding out what parts of the skin go where on the vehicle? Like block coloring three sections of a tank 3 different colors, then looking at it in the game to see what sections of the .dds the textures come from?

Also, it has come to my mind that some vehicles are easier than others to skin, due to their simplicity. How would you rank the ghost, banshee, covie turret, warthog, scorpion, and master chief based on how easier they are? I originally had an idea for a beaten-up tank skin, but the ghost looks simpler, so I was thinking of doing something for it, to get the hang of skinning, more.

Suggestions, comments, please? :?:

well i've been doin skinning for a while so in my opinion they are all pretty easy to skin. the only thing is that it takes a while if you wanna do a really good skin. like me right now im working on color changing skins which isn't hard to do its just that you gotta find the right color mix. but anyway i would recommend skinning a bunch of things different colors and finding out what peices go where on the vehicles so that it is easier to skin and to do better skins.
