Stuck on Kirk's tut

Hey, Been sick so I'm trying to work on mapping but ran into trouble early on..

I'm following Kirk's tut for building the Splinter map. I gave up on the whole alpha map thing, decided to make the bitmap simple, and decided to just make a simple box map with very little topography just to see if I can make it work. I've gotten past making the shaders and am trying to export the level with tool and it says I have open edges. I don't know how that's possible or what to do about it. I just made a simple skybox. 1 piece, no topography. I've used gmax to do this if that helps.

Anytips on what I'm doing wrong and pointing me in a good direction are much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

open edges is a very common problem it means your vertices are wrong and you have to weld them or remake your face's

uh yea basically wat bouncer said

the way i check for open edges in gmax is when in edible mesh select the face catagory and choose select open edges button and then go into wire frame mode to c the errors

you're probably right

You're probably right. I still don't know what to do though. I have a simple skybox. No topography. I made the skybox just as described in Kirk's tut, but stopped with just the simple box and ground bitmap. I haven't modified this box in any way except the obvious flip to make sides face inward. I've looked at it very closely wireframe and can't see anything.

Newb56: I don't know what you mean by a select open edges button. I don't see one here. I can find the face and edge selection tools, but no such open edge selection button. Any help?

Thanks all.

when ur in etible mesh there is vertex ,[/u]EDGE, face, polygon and element selections

choose edge

then there is a sub menu called

Edit Geometry:

the open edge selection is under that
its the fourth row up from the bottom.

also if its just a plain box then just restart, it would be just as quick.

It did something.

I didn't expect to see a difference, but I did start over and something new happened. A new twist that was not mentioned in the tutorial. No doubt something else I did wrong.

So here is the message I get in tool.

You can see which option I selected and what result it had.

Any further help? Thanks so much btw.

Craete shaders for all you textures.
