Okay, I'm using Gmax to make my first map. I don't want my hand to be held throughout the process so I was wondering if anyone could lead me to a good tutorial about making a map with Gmax from start to finish.

Alright, thanks for all the help but I've run into a wall I can't seem to export a map from Gmax as a .JMS file. Is there another program I need or what, and if there is another program i need please tell me how to use it.

u need chimp get it here http://halomaps.org/index.cfm?pg=3&fid=1147

to use it go to the utilities tab in gmax located in the upper rightish hand corner its a hammer,

once in that scroll down to maxscript and then run script select it and find chimp which u downloaded

then scroll down to the chimp:jms exporter catagory and check the listener bubble and uncheck the write debug info bubble

the click export halo structure

once its done with that open ur grablistener that came with chimp locate the folder u want to save ur map in For example "data\levels\testmap\models" and save it there as a jms

hope that helped

it took me forver to figure it out

ok, newb 56, u missed some stuff, so heres exatcly what to do
----------------------------------------
GMax Usage Instructions (Jms Exporter)
----------------------------------------

1) Select the 'Listener Window' Option

2) Press the 'Export Halo Map' button

3) When the process is complete you need to run the supplied 'GrabListener.exe' Program. Ensure that you only have one copy of GMax running when you do so.

4) Save the Listener data to your Halo\Data\Levels\Test\YourMapName\Models folder as YourMapName.jms

5) Open YourMapName.jms in your favorite text editor and remove everything before and including the line '***** Begin Jms *****'. Then goto to bottom of the file and delete everything after and including the line '***** End Jms *****'. Save YourMapName.jms

6) You should now be able to compile your map into a scenario using tool
now, that was taken from the read me, that came chimp came with, jeez new56, how could it take u forever to figure out, if the dang readme tells you how to do everything?

Could you maybe walk me through step by step and not leave anything out because all these other tutorials out there rush this step or don't give enough information.
