I found this open source program Blender 3D that looks really great.

Site:
http://blender.org/cms/Home.2.0.htmlI've downloaded it and as a noob to modelling it took reletively little time to learn the program with the help of this wikibook. http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro
Since it's open source, you can download plugins and python scripts to run inside the app. u can also make ur own plugins using python or make changes to the source of the app. http://www.python.org

Hopefully sum1 who knows how will make a halo pc/ce/xbox/2 plugin that will be useful for modeling for halo.

That's what I use to make ALL my Halo CE models and other models. I jsut started using 3DS Max and it's much easier than Blender, but not as fast.

Milkshape phails by default. So beating it is nothing big, although blender does look pretty cool.

There must already be like, 5 topics on this...

I have been a Blender user for over a year, but just got into Halo modding, so I'm set. :)

(don't mean to spam the topic, but here's one of my recent creations with Blender...)

yeah, blender's old.

@ striker = nice helmet! scene's sorta lacking, so that brings it down a bit, but it's a nice render.

The helm is unfinished, it was a test render for something I was building for my school. Then my school pissed me off, so I quit, lol. 8)

How the Hell do you use it. I have been able to get some simple stuff made, but the movement is horrifically painful at best, and it has unnescesarilly large numbers of features. I find I'm so swamped with random, advanced tools which are of no use to me, that I can't use the simple stuff. The tutorials are... lacking, so if any of you could point me to some "more to the point" tutorials that would help loads. It looks like a good program, but I can't make much more that a simple cube in this, while I made 50% of a map on my first attempt in G-Max. I won't change programs until I can at least make a basic building with this. :( :( :( :( :(
