It sounds like you are talking about pc, not ce, so you can't really do that in max and get it back ingame. The size of the model when you import it is so tiny that you have to make it many times larger, so after you are done, it would be hard to get it back down to the origional size. If you want to edit models and put them back into pc, then use Milkshape.

It is possible in 3ds max.
BUT!
You will need the right import settings otherwise 3ds will ad vertices automatically and HMT doesn't like extra vertices.
To make it bigger click on all the pieces of your model then right lcik scale tool and trype 1000%.When you are done editing your model just right click the scale tool again and type 10%.
100%X10=1000% 10 Times bigger
100%:10=10% Original size again

You have to use HMT and extract the models. They come out in .obj format, so if you use 3ds max, you will need to download an obj importer and an exporter plugin. After you do that, load up max, go to File>Import then select the filetype as wavefront obj and find where you extracted the model to. When you are done with the model, go to File>Export and select wavefront obj. Milkshape is much easier for remodeling though.
