how do i open a picture to trace it in 3dsmax6

Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

okay, make a plane, then go to your material editor, then go to your material library, then choose the brick material, back in ur material editor scroll donw to maps, then under the diffuse map u see taht its the brick name, click on that scroll down and click on it again on the new screen. From there u can pick ur own picture file. hit the button on the middle right that looks like a arrow pointing up after turning 90 degrees, this will take u back to ur maps then scroll down to where its says bump and uncheck the check mark there. then apply the material to your plane. if it doesnt show up then u need to put a uvw map on the plane. with the plane selected go to ur modifier tab and scroll down to uvw map and click it. the pic should automatically be on ur plane, under uvw map make sure u keep it on plane and not cylinder, etc.

that serves a purpose to only have the picture on the same window to look off of, he was asking to trace, like so he could use that under what hes using to make it with, this way he can trace it basically when doing moving verticies in editable mesh which is what he is doing
