Bumpmap Help

i have all the H2 skins and bump maps but when i try to apply the bumpmaps onto the model it doesnt do anything. im using maya 6.5 btw. does anyone know how i can get bumpmaps to work when applied?
and again, this isnt for importing back into H2 or anything, this is for personal use in maya
