Cache Problem??? w/HMT 3??

Im totally new at this but an accomplished apps programmer.

Im backing up maps and using HMT3 to export textures.

First time, no prob. Edited a DDS file PROPERLY and put a picture of my buddies face on the scorpion.

Rebuilt the map and all was fine. Now, even if I delete the map AND HMT3 and restore an original version of the map, when using HMT3 I browse to:

vehicles\scorpion\bitmaps\scorpion_body

and the damn picture is still there.

Whats even stranger....is that I dont make any more mods and just rebuild the WORKING map, Halo wont load it.

Totally trippin me out.

Tell me again, why are you replacing skins with map rebuild?

well, i wanted to edit the scenery and various vehicles.

Initially, it went well. My sorpions now have by friends face on the nose of the scorpion.

This tutorial kinda helped me thru it.

i deleted all maps and restored from CD.

Is there a resource file thats tweaked and stores image data outside of the maps themselves?
