I made a discovery today! I was messing with my drivers in 3ds max, and switched 3ds max on to Open Gl. Wallah! The Fraps FPS counter appeared and I was miraculously able to record the windows with FRAPS.
This would work with gmax to, all you have to do is switch your graphics mode to Open GL.

Nice. If you don't feel like doing that, you could get Camtasia which lets you record the whole desktop.

fraps works better.but in some cases you have to use camtasia.Does it matter if you have opengl or software 3d or driver or whatver?

FRAPS only records in Open GL, it won't record for anything else. Or at least anything I have. I tried DirectX, Software, and OpenGL, of all three only OpenGL works. I believe all computers have the OpenGl thingy, right?
That is what video games use to render.

Depends what you are recording. Camtasia is by far the best in my opinion, the sync between what you are seeing and the speach is amazingly good. Records with no lag or choppyness on both the viewing and the actual recording.
Fraps is better for games, but Camtasia is great quality
Anyhow, that is a great discovery. I remember trying to figure out how to record programs with Fraps, and could not figure it out at all! This should be helpful to certain people

That is because it has to take a screenshot and save it to cache memory, or a file each time a render is taken. As I'm sure anyone knows.
I challenge you to go into halo and pound the screenshot key, and your FPS will lower.

No. Everytime you press the Print Screen key it replaces the old cached screenshot, so your computer won't explode if you do that.

DUH. That's what I said.
