Chimp isn't letting me import a WRL file of my map. All im doind is clicking apload WRL and clicking my maps WRL file. Help please. Thanks.

Lucky for you, I used to use chimp. I had these same problems. When you import the WRL file chimp imports the error locations as actually objects in your map. I have no idea why it does that. Just hit "h" to see all the objects in your map, and all the errors will have an individual object in your map. It will be listed like CHIMP EDGE ERROR 1, and CHIMP EDGE ERROR 2 etc... All in caps. Then, you fix the error and delete the edge error. Sometimes chimp imports things object locations that are not errors, and sometimes it misses some of the errors that tool thinks is an error. Unfortunatly, although GMAX is great, chimp sucks. I highly recommend you go through any means necassary to get 3ds max, as blitzkrieg works very well, as do all of the 3ds max plugins. There are a couple of options you have to get 3ds max. You can buy it commercially for about $3000. If you go this route you will end up spending the most however this lisence never expires. You could also get a student lisence for, I believe, about $172. This way, you end up spending much less money. The cons of choosing to buy the student lisence? Well, if you buy the student lisence you have to have to be a student. Your principal has sign a couple papers to prove you are a student, so you can't just get this discount and not be a student. Also, this software will expire after one year. I would say get the student lisence first, see if you like it. Then, if after one year you are still interested in 3d modeling get the commercial version.

but id just like to say that i got a student licence of 3dsmax7 a while ago, and i dont think i had to get my principal to sign anything. my dad got it for me for xmas, and im pretty sure he didnt have to do that. but ill ask him about it just in case.

but if im right, then a student licence is what most people around here should get. for those rly serious people who will make a job out of it (or get into college with it ), they can get the retail. but gmax... i cant even stand looking at it

ehem.... i like 3ds way more than gmax but im not paying for it right now. i have had no problems with chimp and am making my map completely with gmax. the only thing i miss is rendering. yeah no animations, bad error importing, that sucks but i can live with it. i havent had any material problems or anything though. id rather get an xbox and halo 2 then waste my money on something i can already do with gmax.

Well, I think that if a parent buys it for a child, if they can prove legally that they have a child under the age of 18 going to school I believe that they can buy it. I'm not really to sure about this.
