You don't open up bitmaps.map in HMT, open any level, and go under the bitmaps tag. Then you can save the texture, and inject the new one. Be sure to generate new mipmaps
If you need help IM me

open a .map file like bloodgulch.map and then go find the bitmaps tag. i think it was like [bitm] i think.
that's where all the bitmaps are found.
if that's not it then tell us everything you did
*RAWR!! you're fast lol

Hey man, I believe you have to have a bitmaps.map in the same folder as the map you are opening in order to set it's bitmaps (which changes the bitmaps.map file, not the map you opened).
Basically, using bloodgulch.map as an example, bloodgulch doesn't store the bitmaps in bloodgulch.map. Instead, it reads the bitmaps from the bitmaps.map file. Just copy the bitmaps.map file into the same folder as the map you are editing, and all should be fine (reguarding bitmaps). Just remember that you need the edited bitmaps file to be in your "maps" folder when playing in order to see the new skins in game. I hope that helps.

i already had that in the file so i tryed loading the bitmap file off the disk and that worked but not for long before it did that again. that was about the same time as when i restored halo from my tool bar and it went back down imeadiatly. i think it had something to do with earthlink being open but im not shure, cuz i restarted my comp and it was fine but i did have to restore the bitmap again. nyways i think i got it figd out, but im still not shure bout the halo going back down on me.
*edit: seems u cant view skins and have halo open at the ame time :
