Hey, I'm new to skinning and I am trying to apply the original green MC skin to the Master Chief model in 3ds max 6. I have the model and bitmaps extracted, but it always turns out white and grey. Same thing goes for just about any other weapon or character I try to apply the original skin to. Can someone point me to a tutorial on how to do this?
under the materials menu find your material and click the little checkered square on the right of the material editor. it should say "show map in viewport." if youve already done this or it doesnt work go under the modifier list and press "u" twice, i think, so it brings up the modifier "uvw map" click it. u will see buttons that say box cylinder sphere etc. click the one that best fits the shape of your model, im guessing box would work best for mc but you can try the others too. go down a little bit in ur hierarchy box, below the box/cylinder/sphere buttons and click on "view align" to align the bitmap. another method: if you need to adjust the texture so that each part of your model is on the right part of the texture as with the mc, select the faces of your model and go to the unrap uvw modifier. click on edit. in the screen that pops up you will see some buttons at the top. under one of them is "flatten map" u will want to flatten it to back/front probably, but it depends on the way ur model is facing. now the blob of points on the screen will take the shape of the mc and u can move the points to fit your bitmap.
