i have a very noobish question for you guys and its going to sound very noobish but wutever

up until now, whenever i have skinned something i have made 1 texture with all of the different sections of the object together. I am starting to figure out how to skin in 3ds now and am starting to try and work with multi-subobjects. Q1. Am i correct to assume that multi subpbjects are used for skinning multiple objects within the same pallette(ie, 2 dif objs with 2 dif skins in one circle pallete thingy)? When i try to skin something using multi sub objects i normally skin one part of it(im trying to recreate halo from halo1 so im using the trees) and then when i goto skin another part i want to skin( the land part of it) it shows the tree texture after i do a uvwmap Q2 What am i doing wrong here? Should i assign the bitmaps and then go to skin them or what?

if i have any more questions ill post em here

Yes you can use multi-sub objects for different parts of the map or object. I've had problems in the past so I don't know how much leniency there is on the name convention. I usually title any sub objects mapName_textureName and then do the same for the actual .tif file in the bitmaps directory. Then just make sure the texture is applied to specific faces that it goes on, and add the UVW Map.
