Concept: Martial Arts Weapons

Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

Concept: Martial Arts Weapons

Post by Ermac »

Well, technically this is my first weapon... at least since I started modelling last summer and just glued a couple of boxes together. This is a Sai (for any not familiar with martial arts weapons).

This may not seem like a typical Halo weapon, but one of my long term projects is going to be implementing stuff like this. Its going to require overhauling animations and stuff (of which I know nothing about at the moment, but will eventually learn), but at least Halo has melee stuff already setup within.

Enjoy! 8)

Nah. Nice model, but I hate melee weapons. Guns are cooler  . Plus sword vs gun = gun wins. Swords are boring lol
Good bye. So long. I hope we never meet again. F u halomods.com

Don't get me wrong, maps won't be melee weapons only. I'm trying to work on a balanced hybrid which will take a lot of work. This was just the first model I could tackle on my own. My friend is better at modelling guns than I am.

Nunchuks will be wayyyyy down the road, but eventually. Just bringing those to mind makes me think of the technical difficulties involved. I have a storyline that involves about 30 or so characters each with a unique martial arts weapon. Won't happen anytime soon, ideally will eventually get them all into a video game. 8)

Progress Update:
Well in a way I kind of feel like this is a hack job, or at least I thought it would look like it when I got finished after watching one of the tutorials, but it doesn't look as bad as I thought.

It's kind of a thrill actually getting it working, plus knowing that I've just taken one step closer to my objective. Plus my improvement in both modelling and modding has exploded exponenentially just in two weeks alone.

So here it is. An ingame sai, but it shoots plasma  Kind of silly, but we're gettin' there. 8)

Good job with this. To balence it out just make the gun shoot the knife. Then everyone is happy

LOL, what would be hilarious 8) But since I am a martial artist I couldn't bring myself to do that unless its for a funny project later on. I'm starting to learn how to do fp animations, so I'll be workin' on those. If I get things to look the way I want them to, trust me it'll be worth it.

You got my trust :P
Good to know that you're learning FP animations. Can't have MC pulling out a sword like an AR lol...

This reminds me. Just recently this kid who was practicing martial arts with a sword was puptting the sword back in the sheath (sorry for possible mis-spelling) and missed and chopped off some major artery in his leg. Almost died from it... So you be careful with your practicing.

Oh no kidding, I know some people who work with katana's and those are lethal. You can slice your thumb off re sheathing the thing if you don't know what you are doing. A professional can easily sever someone's limb.

Aight, Here's an update.

I've spent a large portion of today learning how the rigged structure works for the MC's hands, and how to export it and get it working at least. I don't have any animation completed yet, but I at least have a semi-decent position on the hands.

I feel like I'm doing MC a disservice since his hands make it look like he has a serious curse of cerebral palsy and arthritis. I also have to scale things back a bit as well.
