Question about photoshop

I have photoshop7 and I noticed a tutorial for making textures more "3d"

I don't believe you can select and do it to a particular place. I think you can only do it to the layer. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You can use the lasso tool and do a bevel in photoshop.

I meant the belevel thing.
As I am working on that haloICE thing again *shrug* dang cousin came on last year and screwed up my comp,lost all the data and wasnt interested in it..but I got bored and decided,ah what the hell,might as well,cept I'm going into better depths and stuff.
