Well im pretty happy with this model of sister ray (any of you played FF7?) This is part of a map we're making called JUNON harbour. Im modelling sister ray and the support structurs and chimps doing the buildings. Should be awesome, and once ive finished the back of the cannon (part 2) itll get skinned and look cool. Lemme know what you think, ive only been doing 3ds for two weeks, and think things are going pretty well.... Ill post concept art and various other goodies on the D-uK forums in the coming days as well as here (eventually)...

Cant be bothered with an mc model just now :)
See the cylinders on top of the cannon (the group of 6), hed be about the height of one of them...
Cannons not finished anyway, theres still a huge bit to go on the back as well, youll know what im talking about if uve played ff7.

well i never played ff7 because i SUCK BAD at the series... :( . gimme a gun or a car and it's like magic tho lol. what's the poly count, and is this going to be in any premiere map from you? :?: i would certainly hope so. this would the the most incredible replacement for a turret.

ERM, this could never be a turret lol, this is sister ray. Ive included a picture of the original junon harbour from final fantasy 7. As you can see this cannon is HUGE and is practically half the map. Yeh the idea is to make that harbour into a map (with three city levels on each side to keep the size down a bit.

Looks like it will be at least 2000 polygons, it looks like it will be too high polygon, the cylinderalical meshes in it look to be like the standard 18 side.

Yeh its high polygon, but the model is a significant part of the map, and im not scarficing detail for anything. And 2000? WHO CARES, we could have a lot more than that and the xbox will be able to handle it no prob, heck we could have over a million in the map as long as its constructed properly. The cylinder meshes are sitting at 16 sides. It could always be simplified if its a problem

You really should take it down to about 8. And X-Box wouldnt be able to handle it, no chance. Halo doesnt have a real Vis feature engine, you really gotta watch the polygons. Try and get it down to 1000-, let the skin do the detail, with a good bump map.

Ill simplify it slightly for the final, but i have no intention of making this into a halo map. This is being reserved for when its possible for halo 2, i always wanted a detailedmap, hopefully itll be able to handle it. 8 sides sint a problem, wont be significantly different.

It can make alot of difference, cylinders always use up loads of polygons.

Anyway, its a good model, although there are some parts of the mesh sticking out of the bottom =]. Cant wait to see it skinned.

man! nice job? did you model that? thats the koolest thing ive ever seen!
you should modifi it a bit, add a seat, and some handles, then mc can
sit and man it. that would be awsome.

Man, by modeling standards that's a nice model, but I can't stand to see stuff from animes that are overly unothadox and weighty in places it shouldn't be. I LOVE your model man, but I just don't like the design of it. THese are two seperate opinions, I like your work, just don't like the design the anime maker dude made it into. Especially something that is stuck into the side of a hill and unable to aim behind it or anywhere within 400 miles. Sorry, I just can't to see something so impossible to build, so... dumb looking. Imagination is a beautiful thing, but I just cannot stand it...

Like that barrel should not get WIDER as it goes out, it should stay the same radius, those weird tubes going in and out of the gun shouldn't be there, they are just a waste of space. Shouldn't be that long either. I can see the weights, forces and other physical properties (As crazy as that may seem  ) of objects, that just looks weird.

True,I found that out just by modelling that shotgun, the best low but circular looking cylinder would be...I think 12 sides,8 at the least, otherwise it wont look too...circly good model btw,the hard part is keeping it low on polygons though

pfft, i love all of it. and i thought my models were good .i think all that stuff, like tht "tubes" and everything just makes it looker better in detail, but then again, thats just my opinion

Heres an update on the progress of the cannon for those who are interested. The main sections are done, only the back bit and the support structures are needing modelled now. Looking good id say.

Hey man, that model looks really nice. I've played all Final fantasys, and I think you did a really good job modeling that sister ray. I wonder how you got all of the angles of the cannon if the game is 3d but 3rd person view. Well anyway if you want to join my modeling team pm me or aim me through my aim.
