hey, im workin on making a piece of scenery and i just wanted to know, how do u make certain faces have the texture and not the whole thing?

Make it a multi/sub object.
Just in the material editor, instead on the material type standard make it a multi/sub object.

i know, but when i try to do that(i go as far up-to-parent as i can, but when i do multisubobject, and click into one of the ten sublevels that come up, then do a diffuse bitmap and try to do another it makes the whole object go gray, even after i do a uvwmap

Did you click the checker box on the mat in the material editor?
