A (crappy) gun model and a question

Yeah, here's the pistol. Its my first max model, but I'll accept any criticism.

And now, the question...

How do I make an edge all rounded in 3ds max 7?It looks very square, and I want to round the edges.
Also, how would I punch a hole in the main model (if possible) to make the trigger...space?

Sometimes mesh smooth does the job, but for boxes, no.
You gotta move the verticies yourself.
But as for the model.
Spline look = bad.
Plain model, I do.

Ok, I have tried to recreate what you want to do, heres a tutorial:

Image

I will be showing you how to smooth the part in green on the gun, then you can do that for the rest of the gun.

Image

Right click on the gun and find "Chamfer Edge" (Shown in the picture)

Image

Select the 4 edges that you see (actually you only see 3) To get it to go into wireframe, Right click on where it says "Perspective" in the top right of the small window which is near "Top" "Front" "Left" ect.

Image

Hold the mouse down on those 4 edges, and it will "Split" them into 8, smoothing them down.

Image

Repeat this for all of the edges on the gun, making them smooth and nice :)

Image

Create the mesh for which you will cut out on the gun, as shown as the blue mesh.

Image

Move the trigger template mesh into where you want it to cut out

Image

Go to Objects > Compound Objects (as shown in the picture)

Image

Click on the button that says "Boolean" (shown in the picture)

Image

Click on "Pick Operand B" Then click on to what you want to be cut out, which is the trigger mesh (the blue model)

Image

It should now have cut it out, if it hasnt then say and I will tell you how to fix it.

What you should do is this in reverse order, first cut out the trigger, then smooth down the gun. And this is what you are left with:

No, its really helpful.
I'm now trying to make the muzzle into the gun itself,
Image
but the blue bit I want to cut away doesn't want to be cut away, and I get left with this:
Image
A gaping hole, in exaclty the wrong place. I tried clicking on each bit of the gun, but got the same result every time.

Ahah! It's okay, worked it out.
Image
The wrong thing was checked under 'cut' in the boolean menu.
I can't seem to get the top to chamfer, maybe because its just a solid line.

You probably diddnt select the line properly, it always works under any circumstances.

Nice model, it looks alot better.

Now I'm just wondering how to pull models out of the halo pc folders and into Max without downloading special tools or anything. Any ideas?

You have to download tools, plugins for max ect. And you would need to put them into halo CE. check out tutorials on the front page www.halomods.com

How do I change the background and textures and stuff(basically, how do I make a good render? )?

Also, something I've been wondering for a while, how do you get (for example) the master chief model out of halo ce into max? This is so I can use it as reference for sizes etc.

You gotta use a program like HMT and extract it for the halo model into max.

What you should do to make a good render is download this:

Well, I suppose it's time to whip out google.
And now the program HMT failed to initialize properly.
Does it need extracted to anywhere special?
