Two questions...

Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

Two questions...

Post by funkydude9 »

First off, I'm really new to this, so give me a break. ;)

Ok, now that's all said and done...I made the warthog red all by my lonesome self using photoshop. *gives pat on back*. But I'm seeing these really rad skins people are making, and I was wondering if there was and easy way to make cooler looking skins like patterns and such (ie Instead of just messing w/ the hue colors). Do people usually just like draw over the orignial skin or copy a single texture and place it all over the warthog or something? I suck at photoshop, mostly due to the fact that I've never touched the thing. The only thing I know how to do is MS Paint. (don't laugh).

I had in mind the army/camouflage look for the machine gun warthog and for the other one: black with a fire on the side... Not exactly sure where to start I guess. If anyone is willing to make these skins for me I would be greatly appreciated and would definitely give you credit when I release my mod. Just PM me if your intrested. :D

This next question I'm more intrested in. Is there a way to add more rocks to the map in bloodgultch? Like place some more around the level? How would I do trees? Do I import them from another level? Can I simply place a bunch of trees around the map? I have sparkedit 2.0 but all I can do is move things around, not add anything.

K, I just saw another post and this is exactly what I want to do! http://www.halomods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1591
How did he do this?! If he can do it, there must be a way. :?

Ok, that's it. Phew.

I can't really answer your first question, since I never make skins.

He added those rocks on the Xbox version, with a plugin by tjc2k4 that duplicates scenery, vehicles, and player spawn points. So far this plugin is only for the Xbox version, though, sorry.

I make so many copied layers of the original skin in the same photoshop file it's sick. Then I proceed to isolate sections but cutting them out and editing them. This way I retain the detail of the original bitmap, but with my color and or design changes included. And yes, I draw and paste new imagery all over the old bitmaps. Thats where the overlay tool comes in handy. It helps keep the realistic look to it.

Ok, let's say I have two textures...One large and one small, like these two:

I want to apply this texture to my warthog. What would be easier to work with, the large one or small one? And how exactly would I copy the textures over in photoshop? Can someone tell me step by step or link me to a tutorial or something? Thanks...

Sounds more like you just need some photoshop tutorials. Browse the net, there are a million of them... You are just basicly copying and pasting layers. Search for that.
