HaloMods "Classic" Read-only Archive

i am really interested in learning how to skin models in the xbox version of halo. i have looked all over and i am having trouble finding which programs i should use to extract the models from the .map files and then the correct programs to edit those with. (photoshop?) The first thing that i am trying to re skin is the master chief's face from the bloodgulch.map file. Thanks for your help and as you all know we all started as noobs.

For skinning, use HMT to extract it and Photoshop to edit it (DDS file) and for models HMT will export them as .OBJs, so Milkshape is good to use if you want to edit them.
