Zanzibar Weekly Update
Last week, GHL took over my Weekly Update, but this week, yours truly is back...
Lots of interesting things happened over the last few weeks, and I can't wait to tell you guys about it.
But, first things first. The BSP is coming along GREAT, I played the newest version of the beta just last night (afternoon for you Americans out there). One thing that was added over the last one was that the fusion cores actually disappeared into thin air when you "killed" them, accompanied by a nice big explosion (that could kill you when you were to be too close to them). I can't show them just yet until I get some permission, but I can tell you that they look great in-game.
Since the Mombasa-team is also working on the map, we got to have their weapons in the map as well. Result: Aero couldn't stop 0wning us with his uber-secret Gravity Rifle. Since he has the best connection, he got to host. And that enabled him to actually see the Gravity Rifle. I should host next time. We also have the Battle Rifle and SMG in, but the Battle Rifle is just a bit too powerful at the moment. Furthermore, the Halo 2-armor is also in, and it's looking great in combination with the map. Apart from the needed tweaks (you can't really walk up any stairs without having to jump all the time at the moment) and the necessary textures, it's just Halo 2. That's it, no doubt about it. It looks and feels just like Halo 2.
When Aero isn't owning Farsight and me online, he's helping JamesD in figuring out the HUD-part of the mod. You can't call it Halo 2 when it ain't got the HUD. And we are doing everything to bring you the best experience possible to accomplish our goal; to bring you Halo 2, as true to the sequel as possible. And at the moment, I think we already did a great job. We still need to work out some other problems in the map, such as some clipping errors. When you are on the edge of the level you basically "fall off", and end up on a plane below. We will all fix these errors, it's fun to see errors disappear as the map progresses, I'm sure Bungie felt just the same about the map when they were still working hard on it to get it ready for E3.
At the moment, the level is still unportalled (which isn't strange, the level isn't done just yet), which caused some problems with the framerate. It stuttered a few times, not that bad... But we, as the team, have pretty advanced PCs, so it'll be a huge problem for the people that don't really have a special PC. We want to make it as enjoyable as it can be on PC for everyone, and I think it shouldn't be any less fun because someone doesn't have a great PC.
That's about it for this week, stay tuned for next week's update...
