Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

beginner questions about 3DS Max

Post by Waylander »

I am very new to this and have gone through the video tutorials offered here on this site several times. I have some questions though that I hope can get answered. Some of these may sound ignorant...that's because they are! But I won't remain ignorant if someone tells me :).

1. Can you have more than one skybox? I am assuming that the answer is no.

2. What is the best way to create different levels of terrain? Or to create arches/caves/etc? The best thing I can come up with is stretch the polygons, delete some and weld some vertexes until you get the look you want. Or can you create different "boxes" as you need them?

3. How far can you fall in a vehicle before dying?

4. How much should you "tessilate" (sp?) the floor of your skybox?

I'll leave it at these for now :). Thanks for any help anyone can give.

I can answer number four. It's really up to preference. it depends on how many triangles you want. Say for instance you want a certain size doorway but when you select the faces it's always bigger then you want it. You tesselate to get smaller triangle to select smaller sizes.

Thats about all i know. I'm still a noob too.

I know that :). But I'm talking in units so some of the cliffs and jumps and such aren't too high.
