Transperency on .dds file problem

Ok I got a problem, the explanation:

I'm trying to edit the smokecloud1.dds file, but whenever I try to replace the old with my new one it says needed DXT4 or DXT5.

After I edit the file, I save it as DXT5, but still it says that. I tried other thing like DXT1 and Alpha only, 8 bit.

It accepted those, but in game it left a block of color around the smoke instead of just showing the smoke.

How can I make it get rid of that block of color so it is just the smoke object showing. Any help would be appreciated.

What I have:

HMT 3.5
Photoshop + .dds plug-in(and thsoe .dll files)

That's all I need, so why's it not working?

I've gotten a skin I made for the frag grenade to work, but this transperncy thing is just not wanting to work for me...

Ok, um I dont' know if you've solved this problem or not. But I think you need to duplicate the original and go to color balance if you want to change it and also blend the layer using color in photoshop. i was able to change the Contrail on the Banshee from white to green. hope this helps.

Check the side panel in the bitmap in HMT, it's really 2 bitmaps at DXT2/3.
