Create an alpha mask w/ photoshop?

Post by fatmike »

Ok I'm watching the video tutorials and I can't get past making an alpha mask because I am using Photoshop instead of PSP and I don't want to guess and have to start over.

I searched these forums and Gearbox but no thread listed had the answer.

thanks

go to the channels tab (next to layers) and creat a new layer this layer will be your mask u can than go ahead and paint your grass on it
tip hav a look at the tuts bitmaps in the psd file ul find example psds these hav a mask u can look at that to get an idea on how to do it from there

Ok thats what I was thinking and thanks for the reply.

But when I have the alpha channel open I can't see the rest of the image so I don't know where to paint the grass. How do I get around this?

thanks again.

well what i did was just made the map the correct size but made it transparent. then it works just fine for me. the alpha is just opening a hole in the opaque paper. if it's all transparent you just have to be sure that everything is painted or it will be clear in some spots of your level.

you basically have to then go back into the bitmap in geurilla and change the alpha to compressed, recompile the bitmap and you are good to go
