i need help with a weird camera issue in 3ds max

Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

i need help with a weird camera issue in 3ds max

ok here's the issue

note this only started recently

you know when you are modeling something, a street for instance, and you want to move the camera (in perspective mode) to another side. You click the middle mouse button and move it over. Then you realize you want to look at it for a different angle, so you hold alt and click the middle mouse

This is where the issue is

instead of panning around the spot i'm currently looking at, is spins the camera around some random point

Better explained: You are looking at a biped. you move the camera (in perspective mode) to the left so the biped is on the right side of the screen. You then hold alt and the middle mouse button to rotate, but instead of your view turning around so you can see the biped from a different angle, the camera seems to be stuck on a circular track around the biped, so everything rotates but the biped stays in the right side of the screen.

If anyone has seen this/knows anything about it, please tell me! It is impossible to model like this.

Thanks so much in advance
