gmax
I use Gmax and I am currently making a map with it (Confrontation). I have seen people using 3DS Max, and it is almost identicle to Gmax. The only thing that Gmax is truely aweful for is exporting as a .jms. My advice is just to use it lots and practice. It is not too hard once you get used to it.
Good luck with watever you are trying to make.

I completely disagree with that statement.Classic wrote:No unless you wan't to animate.hihi88 wrote:thanks and r the removed features important?
The only problems with animations and gmax are exporting, but a JMA is SOOO freaking easy to write by hand. You just copy + paste the coordinates and rotations for the frames at each different animation key into notepad with a few lines of, well, crap at the top (just look at another JMA, if you don't have one, ask for one)
Also, the only real improvements, when it comes to use with halo, between gmax -> 3ds max are:
1. Exporting, but that's only because no one has the guts to right a JMS/JMA exporter plugin for gmax.
2. Material editor, seriously, I hate the fact that there isn't a browser
3. Saving, where in God's name is that fraking gmax -> 3ds converter?!
You may feel that some other things are better, but seriously, when do you use suff like particles in making a halo map? NEVER
to multiselect:
hold ctrl
click the first piece
continue holding control
click the second piece
wow, that's was hard.
also, if you're looking for gmax, just google it and actually go to the one that says turbosquid

Everything you'll ever need to know about me.
Need help with Linux, C#, C, Python, Java, PHP, Javascript, CSS, or VB? I'm available from 3:00PM-8:00PM EST on weekdays.
Go into Customise/Viewport configuration, then check the shade selected faces box. It annoyed me too before I found that out.hihi88 wrote:i suck at gmax im getting pissed cuz im trying to select the two pieces that make up the ground so i can apply a bitmap but it dosent light up and it gets me mad
