plane modeling question

okay i was watching the videos on how to do it and at one point he moves the slider bar at the bottom and it see thru and i tried moving the slider and it doesnt do it and i tried changing the opacity of the polygon and it doesnt look the same and one no what to do

did you turn auto key on first.
