Post by MC117 »

this ones just the model of how i'm planning this one to be like, 1 base on top of the hill, the other on flat ground with a watch tower to get a little even with the other team, lol. it looks boxy and stuff because i just made this to get the idea of how i should design the map. give me suggestions :) and don't be worried, i wont fill this furom up with maps. just this one and the work i do in it, i'll post it in this same thread. :)

It's just one square. Try making the geometry of the plane you made a little more extensive.
Make more planes, then weld them together, create some fun combinations.

Also, I think this is the wrong forum.

Did you not read his post? Of course it's just one square. All he's trying to do is get an idea of how it should look.

Anyway, it's looking pretty good. I like the concept of the tower to even it out. Maybe you could put a big revein in the middle and a bridge going across or something.

Does anybody know how to apply a texture to an object in order to make it transparent? I mean, I know it's been done to a lot of models in Halo, and I was wondering how I can make 'em myself.
For instance, I want to apply the lightbridge texture to my bridge (on that pic), but I want it to be transparent. I'm using 3dsmax by the way.

And does anybody know how to activate cookies in IE? I seem to have disabled them accidentally, 'cause I keep having to login again and again, even though I have the auto-login checkbox checked.

theres a few different ways in max, one get ur material that u want, then on that menu it will have its own opacity number it will be at 100 the lower it goes the more transparent, also if u go down to the maps and u click on opacity there, u can apply another material of opacity, try just doing the ratrace material it works well, then take that number down to get more transparent, on the working screen ull just see it look like a bunch of dots or wires, depends on version of max, but when u reder it then u will be able to see what it looks like, just mess with it for awhile til u get it lookin good.

Oh and dont listen to who ever said to get a bunchof planes and weild them together, for a map u wont need to, just do what ur doin, make a big plane edit poly it pull up verticies, if u do want ur walls a different material than the ground if ur not great at using the material editor and skinning then do make some planes to make the walls but for most things u wont need to do that.
