Two things Bump Maps made easy and Tilable textures

Post by Sakievich »

Bumpmaps made easy...

no need for the dds plug in or anything, all you need is you tif file, guerilla and Tool.

1. make your bumpmap in black and white in your program of choice

2. export it through Tool.exe as you normally would.

3. open the bitmap tag in guerilla and change the following settings.
a. under "Format" change it to "32-bit color".
b. under "Usage" change it to "height map" and make sure that "disable height map compression" is checked.
c. "Post Processing", these are settings you may want to tweak a bit as you look at your map in sapien. I usually set the "bump height" to 1.

4. save the bitmap tag and close it.

5. Go back to tool and reimport the .tif file.

6. Reopen the bitmap tag and look at the pretty colors...

Tiled textures made easy

1. Procure a copy of Painter 6 7 or 8 or 9

2. Create your texture within the power of two dimensions, usually square (32, 64, 128, etc.)

3. Once you are generally happy with it, open the "patterns" palette under Window>Show Patterns

4. go to the little triangle in the upper right hand corner of the Patterns Palette, click and select "Define PatterN".

5. now, while holding down both the shift key and the space bar, click and drag with your mouse in the window. The image will move and come around the corners.

6. Touch up your seams as you see fit and then reorient the image to your preference and save.

Corel did release a demo version of Painter 9 which works for 30 days and does allow you to save your files. Though you may have to create an account with them to download it.
