Okay, most of you are probably like "WTF? Is he for real?". I am. Me and a few other people have decided to start a project. It's pretty much a map that includes elements from GTA but it uses the Halo engine. So if all goes accordingly, this map should be done by this summer. I am building a site to hold all the info and updates. If you are interested in joining, post in this thread. The team consists of only 4 members ::

To show you what were doing so far (we started last night :lol: ) im going to post 2 pictures of 2 concept ideas for buildings. They don't have any interiors yet but their coming along nicely. Remember, were still in an early state.

Remember, if you want to help, we'd greatly appreciate it. Expect a summer release but I'm not guaranteeing anything yet. Animations for jacking cars are sti.......... ooops.

sounds cool, I guess... how will the cars drive? and will they be modeled after real GTA (OMG oxymoron) cars?

Well, the vehicles are going to be modelled after current ones. I'm going to release a ReadMe elaborating on the objectives we have. It should be released either today or tommorow, depending on how busy I am, I might release a PDF file containing images on existing buildings and streets. We have only been at work for about 4 days now and we've got part of the city done. What we really need is a person who can make good AI. I can make it, but I'm not to good. Modellers would also be greatly accepted and appreciated. Skinners/Textures/Mappers are in good supply but we need a really good one. Bump-Mapping is a need-to-know though. Remember, we are still in an early state.

Also, I am working on a site to hold all the content too so expect a post when it is finished. Be patient. It should be finished by this summer. Remember, you can PM, Post here, or drop me an IM on any of my SC's (Screenames) if you want to help or if you want to know the progress of the project. Also, this isin't just a map, its a whole new era in Halo CE. Along with New Mombassa, this might be one of the most anticipated maps once you guys see what were working with. Custom animations play a big factor in this map for stealing cars and such. Also, I am trying to figure out how to make the camera Third-Person. If anyone knows how, we would greatly appreciate it and you will definitely get some big credits. New weapons are in it too. And NO, you won't be the Master Chief. You will play as a different Biped who you can actually see.

excalibur, i'd gladly help with mapping and weapon models, i can also make textures in photoshop that are really good (with bump maps :)) but i'm no skinner, and uvw mapping (to me) is SOOO boring

If it's not too late to sign up to help, I'd be glad to. I'm more the modeler type so if you needbuildings done or bridges, I can do that. I'll AIM you about it and make something in the mean time.

Well, an admin authorized my article for front-page goodness and I think you should check it out if your interested. You can either post your application here or on the main site until the GTA :: CH Official Site is up. So far the biggest contributor has been BEEF!!!. He helped with the interiors of the buildings. Im not sure if we will make all buildings with interiors but we're pretty sure a good number of them will. It's also official -- custom weapons and vehicles are a definite. I have most of the models I need like a Honda Accord and a Ford Explorer. Im also working on custom Weapon-HUD-Interface tags so if anyone knows anything about creating custom HUDs, please send me a PM or IM. Work on the city AI has also begun and is working smoothly and the official site is near completion. Thanks everybody for your patience.

I would like to help to if i can i, i use photoshop alot and play gta online so know some good ideas for it ((www.mtavc.com)) just so u know i aint making it up that i played gta online.

i played gta online a lot too,i would like to get involved but i dont know modding .mapping or skinning or anything technical come to think about,but this is such an audacious project id love to be involved somehow,beta tester maybe?

Which grand theft Auto you thinkin of baseing it on, grand theft auto vice city would better as more car models avaiable to work off and weapons.

ill help with weapon/building modeling
ill give a crack at vehicles too but ive never tried that with 3dsmax
i remember i did it once with milkshape before HEK was out and it was alright
im also really good with photoshop

We are basing it on Vice City.
The problem that we came into is that We would have to overwrite the existing vehicles and that only leaves us with six vehicles.
The reason behind this is because Halo is coded to accept the first 6 vehicles it sees. If anyone has an idea of getting around that, we would apreciate if you helped us out. Get me on my S/N: LurkerSpawn38

i dont think there would be a way to get around this
like you sed CE only accepts the up to 6 vehicle types so if extra tags are created for new vehicles it either wont work or just now show up
the same principle goes for weapons, im not sure if its true but by creating custom weapon tags you have to get rid of another weapon if the map has every weapon in the game

o i thought weapons also
i know the custom tags for weapons can be added but i thought u couldnt have more weapons then halo actually has in one level

Well, I copied the Warthog Directory and edited most of the tags already to point to itself instead of hog tags and copied every tag it reffered to like an effect tag and copied that and renamed it to co-exist with the new directory. If I can get two different hogs in game, than the only problem would be the model. Assuming that it does work, all you would need is the .gbx model to overwrite the warthog.gbx and your set. I know you can add custom weapons and such because of RAZAFUMs gun. I also have a theory on a third-person camera track so I'll get back to you guys when it's complete and tell you if it worked or not. In the meantime, if anyone has spare time, try the method I used out too and see if it works for you. Also, the Official Grand Theft Auto :: Codename Halo site is going up tommorow afternoon, July 1. It has a small FAQ with about 8 early renders of structures and vehicles. Remember, we are still in early stages and until we clear some ground on how to get custom content into the game, this project is going to go back and forth in terms of possibility but we are doing are best to make it work.
